Eliminating/avoiding subscription fees
Replacing older cameras, or realigning your system around a single vendor
Factory-resetting and restoring functionality to cameras that have temporarily stopped working
Providing family members, care providers or friends access to all or part of the system, and training them how to use it.
Getting your doorbell configured to actually make a sound! I find a lot of DIY installations are incomplete this way. Let's fix it!
Removing unwanted cameras.
If you are considering cameras, but concerned about the implications to privacy, social justice, or just how effective they can be, I can help by reviewing vendors or features that may help you decide.
If you love listening to music, podcasts, audio books, or even good old fashioned radio programming, smart speakers can be transformational. I routinely help customers with:
Selecting, purchasing, installing, configuring and using a system that meets your goals and fits your budget.
Factory-resetting and restoring functionality to smart speakers that have temporarily stopped working
When to use bluetooth, AirPlay, or wifi - and when to use wires
Integrating smart speakers in every room
Installing architectural smart speakers in the walls or ceiling
Upgrading your television with a soundbar and smart speakers
Tuning your system so it sounds fantastic
If you are concerned about privacy and security, I can help by recommending and installing products that don't have a microphone, or by disabling the microphone listening features on products that do.
I install, configure and troubleshoot most smart products. Here are some of the most popular items:
Smart thermostats
Smart door locks (deadbolt and passage)
Smart light bulbs, electrical outlets and light switches
Smart TVs and digital displays
Smart irrigation controllers
Smart home products have quietly been maturing in the last few years, with the emergence of a couple of important underlying standardization technologies, called Matter and Thread. Products built on these new standards are more interoperable with one another. Perhaps more importantly from a customer standpoint, products built on Matter and Thread can more easily be used from within any of the following popular smart home apps:
Apple Home
Google Home
Amazon Echo
Samsung SmartThings
Many older smart home products already work with one or more of these ecosystems, but not all of them. I can help you choose new products that maximize compatibility with your existing fleet of products, decide if and when to upgrade older products, and get everything working for you as seamlessly as possible using the fewest number of platform apps.
If you are using Apple Home to control some products, but are frustrated that your other products are not compatible, I can configure and install a Homebridge device that will make it possible to control everything directly from within Apple Home.
