Streaming services have made it easy for people to eliminate their collections of physical objects - CDs, albums, and cassettes, DVDs and videotapes, and books and magazines - in favor of just the (now digital) versions of these experiences.
If you own a large collection of recorded media - music or video - I can help you store these collections digitally, so you can enjoy them on your own devices at home, and while you're out, without having to pay for a media subscription at all.
If you prefer the convenience of using a streaming service for music, I can recreate your music library on your favorite streaming service.
If you've been using one streaming service and you're ready to move to another, but just can't get motivated to migrate your library, playlists, and favorites, I can get that project done for you, too.
If you have rare or unique recordings that are not even available on streaming services, I can digitize these and catalog them for you so you can enjoy them alongside all your other favorites.
Do you have an old smart phone containing photos and videos that never made the journey to your new phone, or even to your computer? I routinely help customers correct this problem, or some variation on it. I can help you get all of your photos into a single collection, and make sure it's backed up properly too, so your memories are secure.
Do you have a collection of old film negatives, positives, or prints that are just aging in a box, or in frames? Likewise, I can help you get these artifacts scanned and added to your digital archive.
Do you have old videotapes or DVDs of family events? I can digitize or transcode them and make them available in a private digital media library you can access anywhere.
Some data collections are just too big, or uncommonly accessed, to reasonably keep on your computer or devices. This doesn't apply to everyone, but if you've got a lot of data and you've already decided it's worth hanging onto, you need a strategy for keeping it within reach, so that it's available when you do want to access it.
A good example is preserving the digital legacy of a loved one who has died. Perhaps you are not ready to dig through all that data just yet – but you don't want to lose track of it, either, or risk having the computer it's stored on fail when you finally do get around to booting it up again.
The solution is to archive the data. I can help you choose a strategy that meets your needs, and fits in your budget, and then implement it.
Note that archiving is not the same thing as backing up – although you do need to back up your archive! See Computer Help > Backup
Cloud storage. It's limitless! Such a luxury. But there are down sides to it as well, namely the cost, the environmental impact, and the real (though unlikely) possibility of catastrophic data loss. I never recommend relying solely on cloud storage.
A solid state drive (SSD) is a great alternative to a spinning hard drive. I highly recommend backing up to a small form factor SSD as your primary, local backup.
A Network Attached Storage (NAS) device is a compact, cost effective solution for storing data archives, secondary local backups, and media libraries. I can configure a NAS to handle these digital household chores for you:
Backing up ALL of the computers in your home.
Archival storage for data you no longer want or need to keep on your computer/device
A media server for enjoying your personal media library on the TVs, speakers and other devices throughout your home, and when your away, too.
I can install a NAS in a central location in your home or small business, and make sure the most important data stored on it is continuously backed up to the cloud.
