Data breaches have become normal. All of our passwords have been, and will continue to be compromised. What leaves some of us more vulnerable to suffering serious consequences as a result of a data breach is the persistent use of memorable passwords.
I can help you learn how to use a good password keeper, and make the jump to using unguessable passwords (and other tools) that will effectively eliminate you as a target for the most routine identity theft.
Implementing secure passwords and PINs
Securing your most important accounts using multi-factor authentication
Selecting a password keeper that works best for your technology choices, and migrating your existing passwords to that new system
Identifying, prioritizing and updating the security credentials in your most critical accounts
Understanding and implementing passkeys instead of passwords, where possible
Making sure you have secure access to all of your passwords, on all of your devices
Helping you share selected passwords with people you trust, such as family members
The time to start backing up is not after your hard drive fails, or your computer gets stolen, or some other unforeseen disaster happens. It is critical to make sure your data is backed up at all times.
When was the last time you backed up your computer? It will add time to the service call if I have to back you up before I start.
Minimally, I can get you backing up right away, using Time Machine or Windows Backup to an external drive (I always carry a new 2 TB USB hard drive with me, just in case you don't have one). This is inexpensive and straightforward, and the initial backup can usually be completed inside an hour.
Better still, we can get you backing up to the cloud as well. It's highly recommended that your back up to both a local device and to the cloud.
Best practice is the "3-2-1" backup strategy. If you use your computer professionally, you need this level of resilience: 3 backups, 2 of them local, 1 more off site. I normally implement this using the first two strategies above, plus an inexpensive NAS (network attached storage) device.
For people who have a lot of digital data - content creators, for example - your NAS will provide 1 of your 2 local computer backups, and be an archive for all the data that doesn't need to be on your computers. The NAS can be configured to continuously back up to the cloud, as well.

Tech disasters happen. I can help you get through these hard times, and then make sure you are more well prepared in the future:
Replacing lost, stolen or damaged computers and restoring all data
Triaging and mitigating risk if you've been the victim of a phishing scam
Restoring functionality to broken email accounts
Safely removing accumulated data that's filling your hard drive and making it impossible to upgrade or even use your computer
Repairing failed drives, screens, batteries
Preparing in advance!
