I often work with seniors aging in place, living in a community, or with family members or caregivers. I have a lot of empathy and patience for people who struggle with technology as they age. Here are some examples of how I've been able to help seniors overcome challenging situations.
Wendy
But Wendy is 94 years old, and experiencing severe cognitive decline. Streaming television services were just too difficult for her to navigate, which resulted in her television being stuck on a single channel all the time.
I worked with Wendy's caregivers to come up with a weekly schedule of programming, and then created an automated streaming video solution that didn't require any paid subscriptions, minimized ad-based streams, and included content that was of interest to Wendy.
David
David noticed that he was getting more junk mail than ever. Then, one day, he got a phone call from a bank representative, asking him to log into his account. Before he realized that it was a scam, he had already logged in and given the caller permission to control his computer screen.
I worked with David to re-secure all of his email and banking passwords, cleared the malware from his computer, and got him set up with the latest password security tech on all his devices. I also configured his email accounts to reduce the amount of junk mail he sees everyday.
Jeanette
Jeanette lives for her regular Zoom-based book club meetings with friends and family. At some point, however, Zoom stopped working the way she had become accustomed to on her iPad. The meetings stopped happening, and she was fearful that she would lose touch with her circle of book-club friends.
I tested her email and reviewed the Zoom account configuration on her iPad. After uprgading to the latest iPadOS, re-installing Zoom and updating her Gmail account, I was able to resolve the issue. Jeanette's book club is now back to meeting regularly.
